Tree for the Taking at StompboxSonic XVII

Last weekend, we loaded up the van with a box of picks and three Sprig guitars and headed to the Arts at the Armory in Somerville for Stompbox Sonic XVII. What a day.

For those who don't know us yet—we're Tree for the Taking Guitars. We build electric guitars with sustainability at the forefront of our mission. We’re driven to move guitar building away from extractive, colonialist sourcing and toward something cleaner. Instruments should give artists a clear conscience, not baggage.

The room was stacked with talent. We got to hang with the folks from Electronic Audio Experiments, whose Boston-built circuits we've admired for years. Everyone in attendance brought incredible energy, and seeing builders like EarthQuaker Devices, Cosmodio Instruments,

We brought three different Sprig models for folks to demo. The Sprig is our stripped-back, player-centric design. Under seven pounds, reclaimed mahogany neck, Richlite fretboard, and one pickup in the sweet spot. Straight into an amp, it chimes and packs some deep sustain. The through-bolt construction got a lot of questions—people seemed genuinely excited about a guitar designed for maximum repairability.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, asked questions about sustainable sourcing, and played a Sprig. Boston showed up. We left tired, inspired, and ready to get back to the shop.
